Internship Experience
I started my first internship at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan in the Spring of 2007. I observed 9th grade Technical Drawing and Video Production classes. I presented a lesson in each class that was observed by my college professor.
My second internship was at Eugenio Maria De Hostos, IS 318, in the Williamburg neighborhood of Brooklyn in the Spring of 2009. Here I observed 6th grade Computer Basics, 8th grade Sewing and provided assistance in the library. Both internship experiences were wonderful and valuable. I enjoyed being back in the classroom again after a 3 year absence.
Student Teaching
My student teaching was during the Fall 2009 semester. I started out at IS 318 again and taught classes in Computer Basics, Robotics, and Photoshop. The lessons I’ve enjoyed teaching have been with Adobe Photoshop. Lessons have included the basics (cropping, resizing, coloring) and work with filters and blurring. The first two lessons were somewhat difficult because my presentation computer was not working so my lessons were all Tell and no Show. It forced me to think about what I was saying and to really be observing students’ mannerisms to gauge if learning was taking place.
The second half of the semester was at Stuyvesant High School. I am very fortunate to be student teaching at a school of Stuyvesant's caliber. Every member of their technology department has made themselves available to me for questions or advice and have shown a genuine interest in my learning. |
