About Dennis Schroeder

I graduated from the New York City College of Technology in December 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Initial Teaching Certificate in Technology Education. I've also passed the New York State CST exams for Technology Education Specialist and Library Media Specialist.

I began my Education degree in Colorado where I was born and raised. My original goal was Music Education but later switched to Elementary Education. I worked at Crawford Elementary in Aurora, Colorado in the same school district that I graduated from. Being able to work with many of my former classroom teachers and other staff members was a distinct honor.

I was a Technology Educational Assistant and taught K-5 students various software applications that supported classroom learning as well as desktop publishing. Later I took the positions of Library Educational Assistant and Building Technology Facilitator. There I ran the library including circulation, budget, purchasing and providing staff teaching resources. As Facilitator I oversaw all facets of technology at Crawford including buying new computers, staff training and student classes.

My portfolio demonstrates my knowledge, skill, experience and professional disposition. The portfolio also documents progress made toward becoming a teacher who makes caring and competent decisions in diverse contexts; it highlights my ability to impact student learning.

By developing my portfolio, I will develop the ability to articulate my rationale for instructional decisions made as I prepare and teach lessons in the diverse contexts of classrooms, schools and communities  This reflection promotes insight and professional growth.
The portfolio provides a performance-based assessment of my teacher candidate competence.
